Banned Books at the End of the World 👀
And a weekend wedding...
I’ve not shared The China Pandemic book-banning issues I’ve encountered since Covid began for many reasons. But I was recently reminded again that my title is still restricted from promotions, even though I wrote The China Pandemic 6 years before Covid began. Most of the reasons for the banning were, I suspect, due to the last election and not for Covid at all. And I presumed cooler heads would prevail at this point but I was wrong and was again turned down for an AMS ad campaign. Here is the reason they gave.
I’ve received similar reactions since this started years ago and the results of that were devastating to my bottom line. This is the first book in a seven-book beloved series. It’s decimated my income. I’ve been scrambling for years now to make ends meet. Some of you are aware of this. I’ve plundered my savings account just to pay for essentials. Without advertising on Amazon, your books sink to the bottom. That’s a fact every author faces. I’ve turned on old ads in hopes of skirting below the censor lights with some success. But it’s only a matter of time before they discover this and shut me down again. Amazon is not alone in its political censorship war, however, BookBub, who once eagerly promoted the bestselling book, will not show it the light of day. In fact, the only promotion company that’s been willing to promote the first in the series is Written Word Media. They didn’t even bat an eye and I’m forever grateful.
I’ve not highlighted this injustice for many reasons. During the beginning of Covid, I, and my siblings, were too wrapped up in getting my stepmother out of Venezuela where she was trapped so that my ailing father could see her one last time before his pending death. Unfortunately, he died just 6 days before we could get her home, and afterward, I was too devastated to care about declining book sales. Mostly, I depended on you good readers to promote my stories by word of mouth.
In addition, during covid, somehow my contact information including my phone number and address became public and I was constantly harassed by the far left and blamed for the deaths of their mothers, fathers, etc. Stating that I somehow was responsible for their deaths from covid because I put the book into the universe…6 years before. Or…that I was a Trump lover, and the hatred was immense.
It was rough. And now two years later…I’ve had enough of this. This is absolutely wrong. And the banning of this title that’s registered with the Library of Congress and published years before this nonsense must end. I’ll continue to try to promote the title with whoever will take it. And because there is more to this series coming in the future, I will not give up on the series like many have suggested. I will keep The China Pandemic at .99 and hope that readers will purchase it. I only receive .35 per copy this way and that’s gobbled up by ad dollars and more. I once made a six-figure salary as an author off of five books, but now that I’ve published 24 novels, I’m barely making rent and will have to downsize further soon.
This is the first time I’ve complained about the events that took place, perhaps because I was still recovering from dramatic events. It’s been tough. I love you guys and I will come out with Graham’s Resolution, Book 8, cover soon!
On a good note
I took a long drive to Boise with the man in my life this weekend to attend my cousin’s daughter’s wedding. It reminded me how wonderful life can be and how we must celebrate the good things. I see so much promise and life in the couple and I’m proud of this coming generation. Love your family, keep them close, and smile even on rainy days.
